Recycled robots!

Lots of our children read the story about Scrapman. Some of our children did some drama, others did some pictures.

As part of ICT on control, the 6/5 children have cleverly incorporated their work into sustainability week. Look at their fabulous recycled moving robots!

Recycled art work

Look at all the lovely art work from across the school. Can you see what we have recycled? There are socks, plastic bottles, fabrics and lots of other things too.

The 2/1 classes have been weaving.

The 1R classes have made sock puppets to make Tiddalik laugh!

Paper making

Did you know that you can use old paper to make new? We have been learning how to make recycled paper so that we can use it for displays.

Do you like our recycled fish? Mrs Kineavy's class made some for their coral reef. Don't they look fabulous!

Let's stop using plastic bags!

Everyone in the school had a go at making a bag, to help cut down the amount of plastic bags we use.

Miss Beckett's class worked very hard on their rag bags.

The infants used fabric crayons and pens to decorate theirs. The juniors made rag bags by tying strips of fabric onto the bags. They looked great!

The Energy Bus

The whole school went to visit the energy bus.

We went inside and watched a DVD about global warming.
We looked at energy saving light bulbs and ways of heating our house that would help save our environment. We looked at a wind turbine and found out that they are a renewable source of energy – which means they are good for our environment
We found out about and looked at a sola panel which could heat water.
We felt the cold water, then Mike put the water in the top of the panel.
The sun had warned the sola panel and when the man let the water out of the bottom steam came out and the water was hot. We all got an energy saving light bulb to use at home. Mike also gave us some pens and keyrings to remind us to save energy.

Soup!

We looked at how we could help our local environment. We decided to find out about local produce so we do not need to use big lorries which pollute our environment. Also buy eating local produce we are supporting local farmers.
We decided to make vegetable soup from local potatoes, leeks, swede, carrots and onions. Our brilliant buddies from 54B helped us.

We washed and peeled the vegetables

We diced and chopped on our own and with a little help.

We mixed all the chopped vegetables together and added water and stock.

We put all of our ingredients into a saucepan and stirred it over a gentle heat until the vegetables became soft and the soup thickened.

We all agreed that the soup was delicious - the best ever!
